Blog Details

We are a Visit England Accredited Hotel with rooms situated throughout 4 floors. The hotel has no lift due to the grade 2 listed building status meaning we can't make alterations to install one. We will of course, help with luggage though.

Our food is traditional and cooked using fresh produce of fish, meats, vegetables & dairy sourced from Scilly & Cornwall where possible. Our style is not nouvelle cuisine or a fancy Michelin Star type restaurant.

Our experienced staff offer excellent & attentive service, far beyond the normal expectations for a 2 star rated hotel

Our swimming pool is 8 metres x 4 metres and so neither small, or Olympic size! An unusual extra facility compared to even many other hotels. Its size is governed by available space, and is covered in and heated.

Our rooms are comfortable & furnished to the same standard. All are en suite with either bath, shower or both, and some are compact, hence the special offer lower tariff for these.

The hotel is situated in the centre of Hugh Town, at the quieter side and is ideally positioned for easy access to the harbour for inter island boats to the inhabited islands of Tresco, Bryher, St Agnes & St Martins.

I try to post regular photographs of the islands, and you can see more of the hotel in the photo galleries on the right hand side of the page.

May 28th 2010 - Photo Galleries

I hope to get the photo galleries updates as soon as possible. For quick reference though, we now have for the 2010 season, new bed linen, bed spreads & curtains for the rooms in the Long Wing/Reception Level. They are now the same style as the red coloured ones on the 1st & 2nd Floor Rooms.
The bedrooms: 6 through to 10 inclusive have also been re-papered and painted the same cream colour as that already pictured in rooms 11, 12 & 14.
The bathrooms in the Long Wing: Rooms 6 through to 14 have also had the bath/shower mixer units and sink mixer taps & wastes renewed.
...And finally; all bedrooms throughout the hotel (which didn't already have them) now have flat screen TVs with built in Digital Freeview.

May 2010 - Update

Hi everyone! It's been a long while since I have had enough time to upload many items. I have now, finally managed to scan the Visitor Book into the computer from back in June 2009, and edit out the addresses where people have added their entire details. These will now follow from above this post. Also, apologies for the random order in which I've uploaded the last few letters of thanks, pictures, and TripAdvisor reviews!

We recently stayed at the Bell Rock and had a very pleasant stay. The food was all freshly prepared and the choice of homemade sweets were exceptional. The Harbour is short walk from the Hotel were you can get a boat to any of the other islands. If you want a relaxing holiday then the Scilly Isles is the place. We hope to return soon.

Subject: Stay at Bell Rock

Hi Daniel,

We would both like to say we very much enjoyed our stay in the Bell Rock Hotel. We were particularly impressed with the quality of food and the friendliness of all your staff. This made it a very enjoyable stay and very relaxing. Room 2 was good for the views of the sea.

We will definitely return to the Scilly Isles, and you will have to keep us up to date with any deals.

Best Wishes

Thank again,

Paul and Julie Vallance

“Great stay - with all staff focussed on delivering great customer service”

This hotel offered us great value for money and the staff were all kind and friendly. We were particularly impressed by how well they catered for a gluten free diet - making sure there was a choice of sweets each night (as well as main courses and starters!) and often preparing special sauces or offering an individual sweet. They even phoned the ice-cream supplier one night to check that I could eat the local icecream safely. Anyone who has a gluten intolerance will realise how important this was.
The room was clean and well-sized.
The hotel was well located for getting the most out of a trip to St Mary's

A superb hotel with everything thought of. The staff are friendly and efficient. The rooms are very comfortable and decorated and furnished to a very high standard. The meals are always delicious with a different menu each evening, and the desserts are to die for!! After a day on one of the many boats, the pool is a lovely way to relax. The Bell rock is definitely the place to stay when visiting St Marys. Hope to return.

The Scillies are remarkable, romantic and in my view unrepeatable in their beauty anywhere in the world A must to visit, and when you visit stay in the Bell Rock Hotel, for comfortable rooms, excellent service and a first class restaurant, and only a short stroll from the harbour and beautiful beaches Bliss - I will certainly stay again
