We are a Visit England Accredited Hotel with rooms situated throughout 4 floors. The hotel has no lift due to the grade 2 listed building status meaning we can't make alterations to install one. We will of course, help with luggage though.

Our food is traditional and cooked using fresh produce of fish, meats, vegetables & dairy sourced from Scilly & Cornwall where possible. Our style is not nouvelle cuisine or a fancy Michelin Star type restaurant.

Our experienced staff offer excellent & attentive service, far beyond the normal expectations for a 2 star rated hotel

Our swimming pool is 8 metres x 4 metres and so neither small, or Olympic size! An unusual extra facility compared to even many other hotels. Its size is governed by available space, and is covered in and heated.

Our rooms are comfortable & furnished to the same standard. All are en suite with either bath, shower or both, and some are compact, hence the special offer lower tariff for these.

The hotel is situated in the centre of Hugh Town, at the quieter side and is ideally positioned for easy access to the harbour for inter island boats to the inhabited islands of Tresco, Bryher, St Agnes & St Martins.

I try to post regular photographs of the islands, and you can see more of the hotel in the photo galleries on the right hand side of the page.

Merry Christmas!

It's Christmas Eve 2015, and we would like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas!

Here's a picture taken this morning from Room 2. The sun is out, but the winds are gusty.

The Garrison

Sunday 13th December 2015.

An afternoon walk in the sunshine, that lights up Hugh Town & shimmers on the sea, the mid afternoon sun starts to dip; the light shining on the brown bracken almost glows a reddish golden brown.

Sunrise

Autumn sunrises over Buzza & Peninnis are usually quite dramatic. I took this one on the way to work a couple of weeks ago.

Sunset

The sunset across the park in Hugh Town St Mary's.

St Mary's Harbour

The end of St Mary's quay is being extended. Not by a lot, but hopefully will help in harbouring a new passenger ferry when the trusty Scillonian 111 requires replacing in a few years time. You can see a large crane at the end of the quay which operates from a temporary platform positioned behind the quay wall.

New Grimsby

When the tide is in the usual landing and pick up point for boats on Tresco is New Grimsby. This faces the island of Bryher and to the south you can also see the two hills of the uninhabited Samson.
Along the front of New Grimsby, known as Palace Row, an old ship's anchor is set into the ground/wall. The was from a wreck called the Sophie.

Garrison

The walled Garrison is free to walk around. I often get asked if you have to pay. It's a pretty walk with plenty of different views and interesting historical sites along the way.

Peninnis In August Sunshine

The Peninnis outcrop of land offers a scenic coastal walk from St Mary's or Old Town. If you're not keen on bumpy coastal paths you can also get there easily along the farm track road out past the St Mary's Health Centre.
The weathered rock formations are interesting to look at and imagine different likenesses.

Tresco East Side

When the sun is on the sea and sand, the views across from the Blockhouse on Tresco are stunning.
The east side has several white sandy beaches.

St Mary's North End

The views from St Mary's North end towards the off islands of Samson, Tresco & St Martins can be stunning. Especially when the sun shines on the crystal clear azure waters.

World Pilot Gig Weekend 2015

Ladies Finals won by Scilly, Tregarthen's crew, and later disqualified due to an incident of collision knocking the yolk (rudder) of the Newquay gig Spy!
Here's a couple of pics of the gigs rafting in the harbour waiting for the final heat to come in & afterwards swapping crews in Town Beach ready for the men's finals.
